One of my favorite things about this area are the quirky things you often see here - and I'm sure there are many I've yet to experience! So I thought I'd start a little thread about it, just for fun and a bit of positivity!

My personal favourite - the guy who rides around on a bike with his dog sat on a cushion on it. I've been trying to get a picture of this for ages and someone posted this on Twitter recently.

General Chat / Gloucester Road Train Links

Something I spotted in the paper - Campaigners for the Horfield Train Station make an interesting point - they have no current transport links to Gloucester Road, which is their closest shopping district.

I've not been around here long, so I haven't really heard anyone getting excited/upset about this whole idea yet (but I had had a flyer through my home letterbox about it and thought as a resident it was a good thing). I assume everyone here is for it?

Just one of many questions that were ignored.  I wonder if the new regime will be more open?
I expect questions will be answered at meetings only, if posed by an Official Member of the Company, and submitted in triplicate. ;D

I attended the August meeting of the GRTA and was given some information about the BID budget. As the GRTA was disbanded last week, I don`t know if this information is relevant any more. I do not know if the figures on the pages are estimates or firm quotes.

I can't find an answer to  the 'How much is George being paid for the BID?' question. Did it ever get answered?

Hello
I'm Martin and I would like to introduce myself to my local traders as someone who's been working with Gloucester Road independent businesses for the last year.
I have been helping review waste and energy issues to assist traders to reduce waste, save money and get more for your business. For example I've worked with Clean Bean, Blue Lagoon, The Fish Shop - variously looking at recycling of waste, how much appliances cost to run (to ensure reduced running costs and more efficient equipment) and also signposting some limited grants aimed at local small businesses. I also signposted some tax savings that can be made from efficient replacement equipment.
I hope some of this is helpful to members and after meeting some of you I was invited to join the (previous) email group so I could occasionally keep in touch. I also helped pilot the Bristol Pound last year with Gloucester Road £B members.
I live in St Andrews, but also helped set up the Stokes Croft Traders Food waste and Recycling service for cafes and restaurants with unavoidable food waste. This has gained some very positive attention for traders there and been of interest to several other groups of local traders in the city.
I hope I can continue to support local businesses and assist traders with making the best use of the resources you use. Feel free to call me on 07905340972 if I can help.

General Chat / On the way to work
« Last post by Bill on September 24, 2013, 08:41:38 am »
I am lucky enough to walk through St Andrews park on the way to work.  A few minutes of communing with nature before the grind of the day.   :)

From time to time I see apparently unattended dogs fouling the grass - probably belonging to one of the walkers in the distance, chatting to a friend, resolutely not watching their pet.

This morning, though, I saw something new.  Just outside the gate to the children's playground, a dog squatted and fouled the path.  The owner quickly bent down and covered the faeces with a large fallen leaf, then walked on.  When I challenged the owner, she admitted she had nothing with her to clean it up with.

Lady, small children just love to skip along kicking fallen leaves. It's one of the joys of autumn.

Cleaning dog mess off their shoes is not.   >:(
